Living in a big city doesn’t give us many opportunities to really appreciate the stars at night, so in 2010 we decided to drive up to near a Dark Sky sight that would allow us to do that – weather permitting – but would also mean I could actually visit Scotland for the first time. My wife had already been with her family a few times when growing up but she’d not been to the Dumfries and Galloway area, and to break the trip up we stopped in Liverpool on the way up – new for my wife, but where I’d been to university – and Blackpool on the way back, which was a new experience for both of us and one we never want to reproduce.
