When we visited New York for a day in 2011 we didn’t have any plans regarding things to see and do in the (alleged) city that never sleeps. It was just a couple of nights break from where we’d been staying with a relative in Virginia. We didn’t book anything, we didn’t really see anything; we mostly just walked the streets and hopped on the Staten Island ferry. In hindsight, not the best use of our time but we weren’t so experienced at this travelling thing back then and it did allow me to fire off shot after shot in New York’s streets so at least I was entertained at the time.

The following is a shot across the street at one point of a couple of New York street vendors, these two selling hats.

In terms of reworking of this from the original photo there’s only been a slight adjustment to account for the lens, a crop to remove part of a person exiting the frame, then only a little brightening and boosting of whites in the image before pulling in some more detail with edge contrasts; this latter area is most noticeable in the wood of the door and in the fabric of the coats being worn by the vendors, both of which were quite flat in the original image.
