A random turn-off down a road somewhere in the Dumfries and Galloway area of Scotland where we were staying in 2010 led us to this delightful view along a stream and past an old stone bridge to one of the dams created as part of the Galloway Hydro Power Scheme. The system was started and finished in the 1930s and makes for a stark contrast to the colours and natural beauty around, not that the constructions themselves don’t have a powerful beauty all of their own.
