The following photo in its original form has proven to be very popular when displayed on various social media platforms and you can see the original image on the post containing our visit to the Cerro Tololo Observatory in Chile in 2019. This picture was taken at the base of the road leading up to the astronomical buildings, waiting for permission to ascend and confirmation that nothing else was on its way down the rough, winding route.
Obvious first change in the reprocessing of this image has been to crop out the foliage in the foreground. I actually like that foreground interest but just wanted a picture concentrating on the hills in this instance. A little extra detail was brought out by increasing the clarity fractionally, then the amount of white in the image was increased to punch the vibrancy up and take away some of the soft dustiness of the original. With the saturation up to a better level the image was boosted again in the reds and oranges towards yellow and white to reduce the shadow levels leading towards the hills. This image was layered over the original in Hard Light, Overlay, and Lighten modes at low percentages (under 15% for each) to make the detail punchier without looking too fake.
