On one of our days down in the West Country we decided to take a drive through Dartmoor National Park as neither my wife nor I had any memory of having done so in the past. I had planned during the drive that if I saw somewhere with a scenic view – and I imagined there would probably be plenty of those – then I would stop and take some pictures. As it was we came upon a car park to the south of a tor (possibly Bellever Tor but I’m not certain) and decided we’d walk to the top of it. It didn’t look very far away or very high but wide open landscapes have a way of distorting perspective and it turned out to be further, higher, and steeper than it looked. We persevered. We’re not hikers by any stretch of the imagination and we’re not exactly at the peak of physical fitness either but we do pride ourselves on walking up hills if they’re there or climbing steps to towers if they’re there and so we did it. The view along the walk and from the top of tor was lovely and I managed to get some nice landscape photos of Dartmoor along the way.
