We’d spent the previous day on the ocean watching pods of whales migrating and witnessing the most incredible sunset we’d ever seen and had seen information that indicated we could expect a cold, windy, probably rainy day in the Falkland Islands to come. We didn’t mind so long as we could get there. We woke, however, to find the Star Princess getting ready to anchor in Blanco Bay and we were greeted by clear, eye-piercingly blue skies with barely any clouds in view from our balcony. It was a little chilly in the bay (understandably being that far south and with winter approaching) but reasonably sheltered as it turned out with the wind not having too much of an effect on the sea conditions. We were so pleased with this as not every cruise ship that includes a stop at the Falkland Islands actually manages to offload any passengers; the waves in the bay can be too much for the tender boats to safely use.

We had a few hours to kill before our booked excursion to tour the battlefields of the 1982 war with Argentina so grabbed some breakfast and some photographs of the Blanco Bay area from our state room balcony.
