In September 2010 we drove from Portsmouth to New Galloway, Scotland to spend a few nights there. This was my first visit to Scotland and we picked this location because of its proximity to a Dark Skies forest in order to see some spectacular views of stars at night. The trip up was broken up with a couple of nights stay in Liverpool which allowed me to show my wife where I’d gone to university. On the drive onwards we visited Maryport and the Lake District while the return trip saw us break the journey up with a day in Blackpool. Our time in Scotland was mostly spent visiting ruins of castles in the day and drinking whisky in the night.
